Battalion strives to combat and defeat autocrats worldwide and overthrow autocracies with direct action. This goal also includes corporate oligarchies, crony capitalism, monopolies, religious nationalism, racist nationalism, and any other sort of dickheadedness. Fascists, communists, and anything or anyone allied with them (like big tech or censored tech) are its foes.
It is an open though absolutely private group of like-minded communities built with open-source software and a dedication to freedom and human rights.
You, me, everyone, and every nation on the planet are involved a world war between democracy and autocracy. That’s life. Hybrid nation states are in the middle playing both ends against each other.
And within countries we are in a battle between democrats and autocrats. Political parties in every nation, province, and city fall somewhere between the two.
It’s being fought in the minds of everyone, online, in public life, in the economy, in legislatures, and (sometimes violently) on the ground as well.
Battalion aims to help create, support, and empower communities (of all types) to win battles in the eternal war against autocracy and for freedom.
This project was one that was planned to launch several years in the future during our retirement. It was to be used as a personal political organizer. Unfortunately the world is not improving with time. And because big tech and big money entrench autocracy, weaken democracy, enshittify the economy, and destroy the environment, I have decided to change my approach to the project. I want to start now and open it up to other groups or at least as many as I can afford hosting for.
So, now the idea of Battalion is for small communities to achieve big things via targeted missions. This both fends off despair and results in achievable victories.
An example mission would be defeating a book-banning Karen in the local school board election. Stopping an unsafe industrial site from being built in a critical environmental habitat is another example. Boycotts against unethical companies and nations are another, etc. etc.
By using this site as a tool for organizing and planning, groups can slowly improve our existence. And it’s a private tool, this isn’t Facebook groups. Sorry but public group functionality is hidden.
It’s built with opensource technology not corporate surveillance tech. Battalion is fortified with WordPress, BuddyPress, bbPress, and Activity Pub. They are all tried and true technologies that democratize the web and social spaces. And they have done so for a long time.
There are many organizations and sites doing this work already. But if you want something you control, privacy, something different, or have a unique goal, Battalion is for you.
FYI trolls, autocrats, tech bros, racists, sexists, and any other type of dick will be thrown straight out. Battalion is not democratic when it comes to being a douchebag even if it is private. Doing something that is illegal in democracies won’t fly either.
